James Freud and Berlin - Enemy Lines (lyrics)

Enemy Lines
(words and music: James Freud)

Hide me behind your enemy lines
Hide me behind your enemy lines

Mein schöner Liebling
Et c'est soir, et c'est soir
Do you think you're soldier blue, soldier blue?
And where's your gun to God, my love?
Do your commands come from above
Do your commands come from above
To you, to you, to you

CHORUS

Won't you hide me
Behind your enemy lines
You better hide your love
Behind your enemy lines
You better hide your love
Behind your enemy lines (oh yeah)
Behind your enemy lines (oh yeah)
Do I look so insecure, so unsure?
I'm really someone can't you see, I am me?
And I need something I can be

Do your eyes tell what they feel
Do your eyes tell what to feel
Do you, do you, do you

* CHORUS *

You had to be, you had to be a star
Did you want to be?
You had to be, you had to be a star
Did you ever be a star, did you ever be a star
Why did you ever be a star, oh?

*CHORUS*

---
TRIVIA!

The first line is German, and translates to 'My lovely darling'
The second line is French, and translates to 'And it is evening'

Interesting, eh?

  1. I thought it was "gun to GUARD my love". Sounded all a bit campy at the time, what with thinking that. Now that I've read the lyrics for the first time since I heard the song in 1980, I feel a bit silly.

  2. Funnily enough I always thought it was 'guard' as well... go figure. Apparently these lyrics are off a Smash Hits or Countdown lyric sheet direct from the record company... although they have been wrong before - I doubt we'll ever know.
